Qualifications: Minimum Education Required: Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory therapy program with or without an Associate degree as accepted by the National Board for Respiratory Care as sufficient for certification level.
Experience: 1 year medical experience preferred but will also accept new graduates.
Licensure / Certification Required: CRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care & RCP by the Texas Department of Health.
Skills required: Incumbent must be able to speark, read, and write English with a high level of understanding. Incumbent must be able to hear breath and cardiac sounds with a stethoscope. Incumbent must be able to see computer displays on various equipment used in the provision of RT services.
Hours: PRN as needed, 3rd shift.
Duties Assists in the identification of ineffective and costly processes and takes action to improve those processes. Demonstrates contribution to unit-based programs and research strategies to monitor and continuously improve the quality of patient care. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care. Performs technical and diagnostic procedures safely, proficiently; Functions within Scope of Respiratory Care Standards, Department policies, AARC guidelines and all regulatory standards/guidelines. Performs all tasks in a timely and proficient manner to meet the needs of patients, physicians, staff and other customers. Adapts care measures to reflect age-specific and developmental considerations. Provides proper medication dosages in treatments and is alert to response to medication that may vary depending on age. Assists in assuring patient's respiratory needs are met. Performs and assists in emergency room care of critical patients as needed. Completes required respiratory care documentation: respiratory screenings, patient education, smoking cessation, treatments and ventilator documentation including correct charges. Maintains and enhances respiratory clinical skills. Serves as patient advocate. Complies with personnel polices; i.e., Attendance, Dress Code, Respiratory Care Standards of Practice. Communicates per department expectations. Recognizes and communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication. Makes timely and appropriate decisions regarding unresolved/difficult patient care issues or conditions. Strives to meet Departmental Key Performance Indicators/System Key Focus Areas. Uses Clinical Practice Model philosophy to work in partnership with peers, and other disciplines. Functions as preceptor (if selected by Unit Manager) Uses Unit Based Council communication structure. Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, and other customers. Flexible with scheduling to help meet departmental needs. Adapts to changes in workload assignment to meet changing needs of the department.
