Description

This position is a key member of the senior management team of Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center and Regional Surgical Services, and is formally appointed by the KFH Board of Directors. This position is accountable for leading operations, strategic planning, clinical quality and financial performance of Surgical Services across the Northwest Region, key ancillary services at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center (KSMC), and the Brookside Residential Mental Health Treatment Facility (all departments collectively referred to as "the division"). 

 

This position is responsible for assuring assigned departments and services consistently operate in a way that achieves exceptional performance; this position also leads the overall planning process to ensure the growing and changing needs of KPNW patients are met. Accountabilities are realized by partnering with physician leaders and key stakeholders across the continuum of care to improve and enhance clinical performance, maximize quality, access, satisfaction and patient safety. Working closely with Northwest Permanente, KPNW leadership, Kaiser Program Office, and our Labor partners, this position is responsible for building effective partnerships and promoting collaborative relationships that optimize organizational outcomes and success. Reports to the Hospital CEO/Administrator, KSMC.

 

Essential Functions:

In concert with Medical Staff Leadership, ensures the highest standards of clinical quality and patient safety of the division are met, consistent with the mission and vision of Kaiser Permanente
Leads planning efforts with key stakeholders from the governing body, KPNW leadership, medical staff and clinical areas in developing the division's strategic and operational plans, annual goals, budgets, and policies
Serves as a personal role model for the development of a service culture within the division, and at KSMC
Provide senior level oversight of day to day operations of the division
Participates in regional capital equipment planning and in master planning processes; develops and recommends all yearly capital projects related to this division
Prepare annual operating budgets for the division; anticipating appropriate budget modifications that fit prioritized objectives and growth needs
Manages the financial performance of the division on an ongoing basis
Member of The National Kaiser Surgical Core Group leading decisions in the evaluation, selection and integration of health care technology and information management systems that support patient care needs and efficient utilization of resources - this group awards over $100M in contracts annually
Co-chairs the Surgical Executive Committee (which serves as a representative of the Board of Directors) representing the Surgical Services Department as Hospital Policy Setting Committee
In concert with Medical Staff Leadership, spearheads efforts seeks outside best practices and incorporates into the division as appropriate
Performs other duties as requested

 


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 8 years of management/leadership experience which includes a minimum of 3 years experience in a large, complex, acute care medical center
Master's in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related Healthcare field
Experience in a progressive, high volume environment 
Prior experience which includes a balance of strategic new program development and operational improvement is an asset 
Has a track record of clinical program development as well as implementation of operations improvement initiatives to enhance cost effective and efficient patient care service delivery
Has raised the level of professionalism and competency in an acute care setting including experience with operational turnaround and culture transformation
Must be oriented to support the role of physicians in a complementary and constructive fashion and be able to maintain strong relationships with the medical staff based upon mutual trust and respect
Has a track record of developing/mentoring others and creating an environment for learning and growth and able to delegate appropriately and hold others accountable
Excellent financial skills including skills in budgeting, forecasting, strategic fiscal planning, and the use of decision support systems to guide operating decisions
Has a track record of partnering effectively and inclusively with medical staff and non-nursing departments - experience in an integrated healthcare model is ideal
Willingness to recognize and partner with organized labor
Proven track record as an effective leader and able to serve as a role model to staff, managers, and directors in the nursing division across the medical center 
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, able to articulate a vision and to explain ideas for all levels of audiences
Strong team mentoring and development experience
Experience working with a diverse employee and customer base; culturally sensitive; embraces diversity
Able to manage effectively in a matrix environment
Must be inclusive, transparent, collegial, and able to understand the perspectives and meet the expectations of multiple stakeholders

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience in a large, complex acute care medical center
Significant experience leading surgical services operations with demonstrated success
Prior experience as a senior executive in a large, complex, acute care medical center is strongly preferred
Previous experience working in a multi-site healthcare system is preferred
Previous experience in a unionized environment is helpful

 

 

Salary Range: $67.37 - $90.95
