Description

Provides care to age specific populations and considers the following as appropriate:

developmental age, length/height, head circumference, weight, educational needs, daily activities, immunization status, family and/or guardian expectations and involvement.

 

Directs and participates in the overall care of a given group of patients in order to assure quality and initiate plans for improvement when necessary. Able to manage acutely ill and complex patient care problems when necessary.

 

Coordinates reporting activities among shifts in order to enhance continuity of patient care.  Ensure administration and documentation of medications according to hospital policy.  Recognizes limitations of some therapies that must be managed in a critical care setting.

 

Plans and implements or delegates appropriate patient teaching and discharge planning, while continuously evaluating the documentation of progress.  Assesses patient/significant other's current knowledge base and educational needs and incorporates both into the plan of care.

 

Demonstrates an understanding of path physiology relative to complex disease processes and utilizes this knowledge in planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. 

 

Functions as a charge nurse PRN--as a charge nurse serves as identified resource person for all members of the team.  Charge responsibilities include, but are not limited to: routine assignments, re-assignments, assisting staff with priority setting, and monitoring work performance.


Qualifications

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current license in the state of Florida or are eligible (requires confirmation from the State Board) for licensure.  A BSN is preferred.  Must have a current BLS and ACLS card.
Critical care/ recovery room background required.
Strong assessment skills, strong critical thinking, excellent time management and ability to work independently. Highly organized, excellent documentation, excellent customer service, bilingual desired.  Set work schedule.
 
Must possess fundamental mathematics as well as good written and verbal skills. Within 30 days of hire, employee must: complete general and nursing orientation, pass a written medical test, demonstrate accuracy and ability in administering medications, and have selected competencies.  Within 90 days of hire, employee must: show proficiency of IV therapy skills and demonstrate medical/surgical competencies per unit.
