Part-time, 32 hours per pay period

6-8 hour shifts early am to early pm (varies)

Functions in the acute care and ambulatory care setting. Assists physician with specialty testing and procedures which may be diagnostic and/or interventional. May recover or assist during limited conscious sedation in the clinic setting. Knowledgeable and skilled in sterile practices. Skilled in using various types of procedural equipment and instruments. Under the direct supervision of the provider, assists in procedure site preparation, hemostasis and other technical skills. During clinic procedures, circulates and may monitor patients under conscious sedation, assist the physicians, and help detect condition physical changes that need immediate intervention. May perform rounds with or without physician in hospital and on hospital patients. Must be credentialed prior to providing patient care and abides by policies in respective hospitals.

Telephone triage is an interactive process between the patient and nurse that occurs over the telephone. The nurse assesses patient information by collecting subjective and objective data based on implicit and explicit patient information. The nurse identifies the nature and urgency of the healthcare need and determines the appropriate disposition. RN demonstrates a professional attitude toward clients, families, co-workers and self as well as other members of the healthcare team. Utilizes resources for referring patients by functioning independently. Avoids using medical jargon, and keeps conversations on a professional level. Listens to patients courteously. Promotes a quiet and productive physical working environment.

Professional nursing is a scientific process founded on a professional body of knowledge. Nursing is a learned profession based on an understanding of the human condition across the lifespan, and the relationship of the patient with others and within the environment. It is an art dedicated to the caring of others and the work of healing. Nursing is a dynamic discipline that is continually changing and evolving to include updated knowledge, technologies, and advances in patient care. What is unique for nurses is the configuration and breadth of nursing practice, both in independent aspects of practice and the collaboration with other authorized health care providers.

Ambulatory care nursing is a unique realm of nursing practice. It is characterized by efficient, focused assessments of patients. Ambulatory care nursing encounters may occur face-to-face or via telephone or other communication devices. The nurse in the ambulatory care setting assesses the patient's needs by collecting subjective and objective health status data from the patient or the patient's care giver, and communicates this data to the health care provider. The ambulatory nurse may triage based on this data. The ambulatory nurse prioritizes the information collected based on the patient's condition, the situation, and/or anticipated needs, and implements a plan of care in collaboration with the authorized provider, and evaluates the response of the prescribed treatment. The ambulatory nurse communicates and educates the health care provider's instructions for care to the patient or the patient's caregiver. Ambulatory care nursing is a specialty practice area that is characterized by dealing with situations and issues that are not always predictable.

The professional nurse must adhere to the federal and state licensing guidelines and subsequent practice as well as the SC Administration and the respective hospitals' predefined Scope of Practice Guidelines. The scope of registered nursing practice: Nursing diagnosis of human responses to actual or potential health problems of individuals or groups, providing preventative, restorative and supportive care, health teaching and counseling, case finding and referral; and administration, supervision, delegation, evaluation and teaching of health and nursing practice; which may require substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and skill based upon the principles of the biological, physiological, behavioral and sociological sciences, and for which the registered nurse bears responsibility and accountability. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinic Operations or designee.

No formal lines of supervision; however, may delegate to licensed and unlicensed personnel within their defined scope of practice as well as students and orients.

When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students and orients.
Required Skills

Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred. In-depth knowledge of specialty area preferred.

Currently licensed with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges. Functions within the legal scope of practice.

Care is delivered to clinic patients of all ages. Work hours vary according to clinic schedules and may include scheduled weekends and holidays. May include call.
