Job Description:
 

As an integral part of the Patient Care team, the Materials Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of procurement of equipment and clinical supplies within the nursing units. These activities include but not limited to procurement, maintenance and ordering of all medical/surgical supplies and equipment. Supervision of junior staff members.

Reports to: Director of Cath Lab

1. Reviews and analyzes equipment usage and needs in order to maintain adequate equipment/supply levels utilizing electronic inventory control systems.

2. Orders and maintains par level of all supplies and equipment and works closely with medical and nursing staff to ensure that proper supplies are on the floor and are available.

3. In conjunction with the Purchasing Department and according to established policies and procedures, arranges for the rental of medical and surgical equipment and develops a tracking system.

4. Examines equipment such as suction meters, oxygen values, bed monitor (beepers), teleboxes, balloon pumps, pacemakers, CVH machines, Broncoscopes, TEE probes, data scopes, syringe pumps, CPM machines, infusion pumps; prisma machines and blood pressure cuffs to ensure proper functioning, Also, responsible for knowing the various instruments contained in sterile instrument trays.

5. Participates in environmental rounds and responsible for smoke test on insulation rooms and maintenance logs for refrigerators.

6. Coordinates repair of equipment by appropriately tagging and taking equipment to designated area.

7. Coordinates the exchange of equipment for newly inspected items in accordance with established policies and procedures.

8. Reports problematic or broken equipment to appropriate department.

9. Attends/and or performs in-services in the hospital as required.

10. Assists clinical nurse managers with training and skills assessment.

11. Working knowledge of approximately 30 units to ensure cross coverage is available when the occasion occurs.

12. Assign locations to staff.

13. Supervision of ordering/maintaining staff uniforms.

14. Participates in infectious control rounds

15. Maintains On-call room.

16. Supervision of security ID's, beepers, cell phones.

17. Supervision of linen supplies.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
 

Associate's Degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred
