DEPARTMENT: Optical Sales
SCHEDULE: Full-time regular, 40 hours per week, Day shift, Tuesday & Thursday: 12:00PM-8:30PM, Wednesday & Friday: 9:45AM-6:15PM, Saturday: 8:30AM-5:00PM.
Education:
High School Diploma/GED
Experience Requirement: 4 years as an Optical Dispenser (Optician). 50 mile driving required.
Certification: ABO (American Board of Opticianary) preferred
Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the optical sales branch manager, is responsible for all dispensing and optical activities. Enforces all safety standards and maintains the highest standards in the dispensing of optical goods consistent with the policies and procedures set forth by The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. This includes all technical procedures of fitting, necessary bench work and allied optical procedures. Included also will be any necessary clerical functions required to satisfy patient needs which may include acting as liaison between pertinent departments. A Lead Dispenser may be appointed at the discretion of the Employer with input from the Union Labor Partner and will specifically and regularly be required to direct, check, review, assign, organize and coordinate the work of five (5) or more employees within a specific sales office. Also, the Lead Dispenser will be responsible for training and reporting on the work of other employees as required.
Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. 4 years as an Optical Dispenser (Optician) ABO (American Board of Opticianary) certification preferred. Excellent customer service skills. Computer knowledge and ability to enter prescptions into computerized system and place retail eyeglass orders. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment. Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

Duties: A Lead Dispenser may be appointed at the discretion of the Employer with input from the Union Labor Partner and will specifically and regularly be required to direct, check, review, assign, organize and coordinate the work of five (5) or more employees within a specific sales office. Also, the Lead Dispenser will be responsible for training and reporting on the work on other employees as required. A Lead Dispenser will be capable of performing all the duties within their area of responsibility. Accounts for daily cash sales activity; handles patient complaints; enforces all safety standards. Assists patients with service and interviews patient to determine visual needs. Advises patient with frame and lens selection consistent with their needs. Interprets refractionists' prescption. Takes all facial and optical measurements, as appropriate for a proper fit. Instructs and counsels patients on proper methods of eyeglass care. Dispenses and adjusts optical product. Inspects final product for accuracy in accordance with prescption requirements, original order and ANSI 80-standards. Reconciles patient's concerns to their satisfaction.
Performs all other dispensing functions consistent with the accepted professional practice as authorized by the California Board of Medical Examiners and organizational policies and practices. Conducts daily inventory of frames and accessories as required. Perform necessary shop work as required, including but not limited to cutting, edging, dyeing, and mounting of lenses. Repair frames as required. Recommends to branch manger improvements in sales and service. Maintains written and verbal communication with lab as required. Will perform customer service duties and floor coordinator duties. Perform other related duties as necessary.
