Job Description:

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE IN MEMBRANE PROTEIN STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ubarretxena-Belandia in the Department of Structural and Chemical Biology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. The laboratory focuses on structure determination and biochemical characterization of membrane proteins. For structure determination we use primarily cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) in combination with X-ray crystallography and solution NMR methods.

The laboratory is fully equipped for all aspects of molecular biology and biochemistry and the department hosts state-of-the-art facilities for NMR and X-ray crystallography. In addition, through the New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC, www.mysbc.org) we have direct access to superlative cryo-EM, NMR and X-ray crystallography instrumentation. Cryo-EM instrumentation at the NYSBC includes a 120 kV JEOL 1230, a 200kV FEG FEI Technai F20, a 200kV FEG JEOL 2100F and a 300kV FEG JEOL 3200FSC with liquid He stage and in-column energy filter. NMR instrumentation includes a large cluster of high-field magnets including two 900 MHz and three 800 MHz spectrometers.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. at the start of the postdoctoral appointment. Research experience in any of the following areas is particularly desirable: cryo-EM, protein NMR, or eukaryotic membrane protein expression and biochemistry. Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the position is filled.
The candidate responsibilities include: (i) to contribute a major role in setting the direction of research goals and to take the lead in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and materials for presentation at scientific meetings as a co-author; (ii) to study membrane proteins from a biochemical and structural perspective, and (iii) to assist other members of the research team in the furtherance of the group's work.
