The Central Service Technician is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and packaging of items used throughout the Medical Center.  Work assignment areas within the Central Service Department are variable and may include case cart processing, instrumentation, decontamination, sterilization, the Operating room, and supply and equipment order processing.  Some of the responsibilities include:
 
1.  Responsible for inventory of Specialty Carts
2.  Maintains Quality Assurance (QA) records for sterilizers
3.  Charges/Credits patients
4.  Cleans, dries and inspects equipment before reissuing.
5.  Maintains proper testing of Sterilizers
6.  Inspects, test, lubricates and assembles instrument trays required by Surgery, L&D etc.
7.  Wraps, labels & sterilizes trays.
8.  Able to identify basic instrumentation
9,  Assumes responsibility for pulling surgical cases by means of preference cards.
10.  Soaks and Ultrasonically cleans instruments using OSHA standards.

Qualifications

This position requires 2 years experience in central services.  Certification is preferred.
 
The successful candidate will have:
 
1.  Knowledge of infection control and aseptic procedures.
2.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
3.  Ability to maintain records and label items.
4.  Ability to stand for long periods of time.
5.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, patients, and physicians.
6.  Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
