Description

The Prescription Ordering System Manager will be the subject matter expert and information technology leader responsible for design and delivery of all solutions with Kaiser Permanente's physician order entry system, as well as infusion/home health and oncology ordering and prescription processing systems.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record delivering electronic medical record (EMR) ordering solutions, specifically with KP's Epic healthcare package.  This leadership role will work in tandem with pharmacy business, medical operations stakeholders, and IT executives to identify business requirements and develop and implement best-in-class solutions to improve prescription order workflow in pharmacy, provider workflows in the EMR, and pharmacy workflow and processing for KPHC, infusion/home health, and oncology .  The candidate will be the IT point of contact and business process owner for all KP HealthConnect EMR inbound and outbound messaging and processes.  Strong knowledge of KPHC/EMR interface messaging principles and content, infusion/home health/oncology workflow, and pharmacy prescription processing workflow are necessary for this position.
 
Responsibilities:
Build stakeholder credibility as KP's leading IT and business process expert in physician prescription order entry in the EMR and prescription order processing for applications and workflow used in supporting infusion/home health and oncology.
Be the IT liaison into the KPHC medical groups and all national and interregional KPHC pharmacy groups.
Be the IT liason and leader for interregional pharmacy and provider infusion/home health and oncology groups.
Gather and analyze business operations stakeholder requests for improvements to the KP HealthConnect and other ordering systems used to support infusion, oncology, and Pharmacy workflow.
Transform requirements into solutions by partnering with IT Business Process Engineering and Software Engineering departments;
Responsible for all requirements and interface design/redesign into and out of the HealthConnect Epic implementation; this includes message structure and segments & fields content.
Responsible for oversight, and improvement of prescription ordering interfaces.
Responsible for all requirements related to infusion/home health
Build and support relationships with internal business operations, regional and interregional KPHC teams, home infusion and oncology teams, regional and IT departments to deliver improvements.
Develop and participate in strategic planning for the provider prescription order entry workflows as part of the overall, long-term KP technology roadmap.
Maintain dialogue with national KPHC and pharmacy business teams to prepare for enhancements, releases, or configuration changes affecting interface messaging for sending or receiving systems.
Own the ESB enhancements and changes related to the prescription ordering interface with the Software Engineering department.
Departmental team management, including management of remote client teams and personnel development.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Pharmacy preferred.
At least 10 years experience working in pharmacy based software solutions in a corporate or consulting environment.
Expert skills in the following software solution and development:
Expert in software development life cycle methodologies.
Expert in pharmacy business processes.
Expert in integrated electronic medical records and interface messaging.
Expert in usability factors for software implementation.
Epic package implementation experience is required.
EPIC Design, Build & Validate (DBV) methodology experience is required.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical application implementation experience is desirable in all specialty areas; KPHC, infusion and oncology.
In-patient service systems functionality is desirable.
Strong written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills.
Strong problem resolution skills.
Strong background in data analysis.
Strong time management and project management skills.
