BASIC FUNCTION: Position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical care by performing technical and clerical duties associated with the operation of the Pharmacy.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Specific age groups that are served by this position are marked.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, and possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
2. Current Pharmacy Tech registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
3. One-year hospital pharmacy experience is preferred.
4. Must have knowledge of medical terminology.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Selects prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list.
2. Receives merchandise and places into inventory.
3. Monitors assigned areas for out-of-stock or out-of-date inventory.
4. Delivers medications to the patient care areas.
5. Inspects and maintains emergency medication trays.
6. Packages and labels unit dose oral liquids/tablets, and maintains pre-pack records.
7. Collects and loads drugs into an automated drug dispensing system PYXIS . Maintains inventory for non-automated patient care areas.
8. Responds to oral requests for medications from nursing personnel and other departments.
9. Credits patients for returned medications using the computer system, and returns the medication to inventory.
10. Ensures safe care to patients, adhering to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
11. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
