The Prescription Processing Manager will be the subject matter expert and information technology manager responsible for designing and delivering solutions that support prescription order processing, self service functions, and the product/provider databases in the outpatient pharmacy system. The position is also responsible for integrating central and local automation as well as other key areas that integrate and support primary workflow such as clinical screening activities, return-to-stock, inventory, dispensing, compounding, and POS. The position also requires an ongoing assessment over the medical-legal impact of design, and acknowledges all national and local regulatory constraints.
Additionally, this position is responsible for all interface design and development. This manager is also responsible in delivering solutions that assure the integrity of prescription data used in external systems, such as KP.ORG, State Boards of Pharmacy, DEA, data warehouse, etc. This position requires strong outpatient pharmaceutical knowledge, as well as informatics and business expertise in the areas of pharmacy prescription processing workflow. The position also requires ongoing assessments of the medical-legal impact of design, and acknowledges all national and local regulatory constraints affecting prescription processing.
The successful candidate will have a proven background in order management process with a strong background in prescription processing and workflow management. This candidate will work with IT leadership and business stakeholders to identify requirements that utilize the pharmacy system to support centralized, role-based processing and workload balancing; enhanced clinical programs; decision support; and other value-added pharmacy activities. The candidate will own the business processes that support standardized order management workflow and will have a key role in developing strong vendor and software engineering relationships.
Essential Functions:
Build stakeholder credibility as KP's IT expert in pharmacy ordering management processing and system-supported workflow management
Gather and analyze business stakeholder requests for prescription processing and order management improvements
Transform requirements into solutions by partnering with IT Business Process Engineering analysts, with KP Software Engineering teams, and other vendor and KP software development groups.
Maintain and build relationships with internal IT, business operations, regional departments, and vendors, to deliver standard software solutions in support of prescription processing and related workflow and activities
Develop strategic planning for order management, prescriptions processing, and self service functions as part of an overall, long-term KP technology roadmap
Develop product and provider maintenance processes
Assure that innovative, efficient handling of data, loads, updates, extracts and file transfers are developed
Assure the design and deliver best-in-class solutions for patient prescription self-service through the KP member web site, kiosks, and voice response systems
Support business operations to build ordering systems and prescription processing workflow solutions:
Maintain dialogue with business operations and vendors to drive solutions that improve product functionality, communicate future needs, and align development with the technology roadmap
Basic Qualifications:
At least 12 years experience working in pharmacy, and providing some experience in managed care environments and pharmacy operations
This position requires informatics and business expertise in the areas of pharmacy prescription processing workflow from receiving a prescription order or dispense request, through the sell process.
At least 8 years experience working in pharmacy based software solutions in a corporate or consulting environment
Experience in release management and change control
Bachelor's degree or 4 years of equivalent work experience.

Expert skills in the following software solution development, interface messaging, and prescription processing activities:
Expert in software development life cycle methodologies
Expert in all pharmacy business processes
Expert in back-end processes that support order management workflow; e.g. member, provider, and product databases
Expert in the integration of ordering systems into workflow management to deliver effective, efficient, ease-of-use to the member and automated workflow for the pharmacy
Expert in vendor-supported purchase-to-pay solution implementation
Design leadership to integrate sensible and affordable software solutions that support practical, operational workflow scenarios
Ability to use data and metrics and data analysis to support requirements in support of solution design/delivery
Strong background in automated process and automation
Expert in the integration of efficient pharmacy and workflow management and decision support into the overall delivery of high quality patient care
Expert in vendor-supported purchase-to-pay solution implementation
Experience in areas that drive pharmacy ordering system functionality:
High-volume automated solutions experience is desirable
Pharmacy workflow for new, reorder, discontinue, and RAR and inbound prescription processing from various types of ordering systems
Inventory management experience is desirable
Electronic CPOE experience is desirable
Benefits and formulary experience is desirable
Database maintenance, product and provider data, and reporting experience are desirable
