The primary responsibility of the Admissions Nurse is to expedite admissions from the Emergency Department to inpatient units. This nurse will assume principal responsibility for completion the admission assessment and all associated paperwork, including the medication reconciliation, belongings list, and Core Measures forms.
The nurse will also assist in transporting patients that require monitoring to the inpatient unit. He/she will also actively participate in hand-off communication to the inpatient unit from the Emergency Department.
The Admissions Nurse will remain immediately available via the Spectralink phone system and maintain a high level of customer service. During periods when all ED admissions are completed, or there are no patients awaiting admission in the ED, the Admissions Nurse will be available to assist with direct admissions or other duties as assigned on other units. However, at all times, the nurse will remain immediately available to return to the ED.
