Job Description:
 

Greets and checks in patients using IDX. Confirms accurate demographic and insurance information from patient and updates IDX, when necessary.
2. Advises patients on issues such as referrals, physician insurance participation, and payment at time of service.
3. Collects and properly accounts for patient co-payments.
4. Reconciles daily sheet/ encounter forms with sign in sheet to ensure accuracy of visits and co-payments.
5. As the initial point of entry into the practice, ensure that telephone calls are picked up in a timely manner, messages are returned in a timely manner, and any call placed "on hold" is managed to ensure that the caller is not waiting for long periods.
6. Answers the telephone with their name, the name of the department and a courteous greeting, such as "Good afternoon, (receiver's name), Mount Sinai Ophthalmology, how may I assist you?"
7. Monitors the waiting room to make sure all patients have been checked in, and monitor waiting time.
8. Over the telephone, makes appointments in IDX and gathers relevant demographic and insurance information about the patient.
9. Prepares patients charts as needed.
10. Calls in patient prescriptions, as needed.
11. Reconciles daily encounters and cash log.
12. Retrieves and stores information pertinent to the patient visit such as authorization numbers, referring physician etc. in the Custom Appointment Information Window.
13. Corrects related TES (Transaction Editing System) edits in IDX.
14. Files and retrieves patient charts as necessary.
Perform other job-related duties as necessary.

Minimum Education
(HS/GED; specialized training; degree and discipline)

High school degree is required and Bachelor's degree preferred, but experience and track record may be substituted, as appropriate

Minimum Related Experience
(e.g. 1 year in research environment)

Two plus year's experience medical office environment, scheduling appointments and answering telephones. Experience in ophthalmology preferred as is working in large practice environment. Strong customer service focus with professional demeanor and manners. Experience with patient registration and appointment making is essential.

Minimum Computer Skills
(provide program and skill level, e.g. MS Word - Basic) (skill levels are Basic, Intermediate, Advanced)

Knowledge and experience with IDX with a working knowledge of Excel and Word is preferred
