Description

Under indirect supervision, performs diagnostic, rehabilitative, conservation services and research related to hearing functions.  Supports compliance and Principles of  Responsibility.  Maintains confidentiality.  Protects organizational assets.  Exhibits ethics and integrity.  Adheres to applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures.  Reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance.

 

Essential Functions:
Administers wide variety of routine and special acoustic and electro-acoustic tests to determine precisely patient's hearing level, site of any damage to auditory system and its organic or inorganic nature
Coordinates audiometric results with other diagnostic data, such as educational, medical, social and behavioral information. Anticipates/Predicts potential benefits of use of hearing aids and/or special training
Plans, develops, conducts, or participates in habilitative and rehabilitative programs including counseling, guidance, auditory training, and hearing conservation. Records diagnostic findings and progress made. Reports findings as requested
Assists patient in selection of suitable hearing aids in development of listening habits and use of visual cues. Assists in surgical treatment of hearing loss by describing loss to surgeon and postoperatively by conducting studies to determine hearing improvement achieved through surgery
Designs/Develops clinical and research procedures. Conducts research in auditory systems. Develops improved methods of evaluation and treatment of persons with these disorders
Plans, develops, conducts, and/or participates in seminars/workshops to teach audiology to professional staff and trains them to conduct routine audiometry. Increases understanding of speech and hearing process and nature of various disorders
Demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities in area of specialization
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served
Demonstrates knowledge skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service
Adheres to and maintains current knowledge of Principles of Responsibility, applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures. Reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance
On regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both within and outside department in accomplishment of own job duties, as well as, assisting others in accomplishing theirs. Serves as team player and role model for other employees in Organization always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect. Conducts oneself in service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with members, visitors, public and all employees

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Two years of clinical experience in hospital setting
Experience in rehabilitation and counseling hearing-impaired patients
Experience in administering basic hearing evaluation and impedance testing, evoked response audiometry, and hearing aid evaluations
Experience in pediatric hearing testing
Master's degree in audiology
Valid Hawaii Audiologist License (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure)
Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
Familiarity with standard audiometric equipment and various types of hearing aids
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in oral communication (at level of patient's comprehension) and written communication
Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
Reading, writing, speaking, understanding English
Training/giving and receiving instructions
Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with infants
Doctorate degree in audiology
