Under general supervision of a licensed audiologist, performs automated newborn hearing screening. Performs rescreening on infants who fail initial screening.
Essential Functions:
Obtains list of infants available for screening in nursery and NICU; identifies infants who were missed
Performs infant hearing screening per standing order and according to manufacturer's instructions; utilizes proper infection control procedures; notes and reports unusual craniofacial, skin conditions, or problems with testing per department procedure
Utilizes appropriate infant handling and soothing techniques; informs parent(s) about availability of results
Documents results in babies' hospital charts
Maintains accurate logs of infants' screening status
Routes all information pertaining to infant hearing screening results to audiologist
Maintains infection control standards at all times, including scrubbing, handwashing between infants, and gloving when necessary; cleans equipment according to manufacturer's instructions
Schedules rescreenings of infants who fail the initial screening; rescreens failures as needed in the clinic
Ensures pediatricians, audiologists, and parents receive timely information about rescreenings schedules and rescreening results
Maintains adequate testing supplies; maintains equipment and troubleshoots according to manufacturer's instructions
Assists audiologists in clinic as needed
Attends audiology meetings as required
Basic Qualifications:
Professional or personal experience with infants
High school diploma
Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
Ability to document findings clearly and concisely
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, quality management, systems thinking, teamwork, and written communication
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications
Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone
Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
Training/giving and receiving instructions
Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness
Preferred Qualifications:
Health care experience
